Chronostasis

This is a strange phenomenon where a new event is extended in time in our mind.

For example, if you look at a clock it doesn’t appear to tick when you first fixate on it. It appears to be stopped and then will carry on ticking.

It also works for sound and touch, as there is a disconnect between sensation and perception.
